Bf 109 F-2 Trop South Africa War Museum

Does anyone have the history of White 6 which resides at this Museum?

Hi there,

Of course this is not an F-2/Trop and of course this is not WNr.31010 ..
It was an F-4/Trop of 7./JG53 and was captured by 7°Sqdn SAAF at Sidi Haneish, LG2 and flew to El Alamein.
Flown by Blaauw, Jan. Maj., Basson, Arnold Loubser 'Bassie' (45 minutes), flown by Kirby, Harold. Capt. on 4th of December 1942 and flown by Meikle, Arthur.

The picture(s) of the original machine, with JG53 "Pik As" emblem and without G-2 (so to say) cowling do exist.

As for "known WNr." this indicated WNr. is a spare part number situated in front/top of fire wall. Nothing to do with machine WNr.
Last museum curator did look everywhere outside and inside the machine at "our" request ... Nothing.
So it's WNr. remains unknown so far.

Regards,
Franck.

Yes no badge.
Cowling has been moved and changed.
Typical markings for III./JG53, though.

Hope my explanation do help you Chris.

Regards,
Franck.

During the restoration of the Bf 109E at Duxford they found a W.Nr. stamped into the fuselage frame just forward of the tail wheel.
You'll need to access the interior of the fuselage though, perhaps a mirror up thru the tail wheel opening.
