David Weiss has provided an interesting table about the serial numbers of the early subtypes of the Bf109:

Cheers,

That is so out of date and incorrect. 14 of the first 16 were Antons, 6-3 through 6-16.

Yes, but the Bf109A did not score any kills, did it?

As soon as they arrived, first kill by Günther Lutzow of 2.J/88 on 6 April 1937 in 6-10, Bf 109 A. An I-15 was the first "enemy" aircraft shot down by a Bf 109. The unit went on to down two more I-15s on 22 April.

Please do some reading.

I thought these three April 1937 kills were scored in the Bf109B...
But I suppose, they used the Bf109B from May onwards (?) with Harro Harder becoming the top-scorer of that subtype with 10 kills.

The Berthas arrived in mid-July 1937. I believe Harder made his first kill in a 109 in August '37. His aircraft was 6-36. Earlier kills were in an He 51, from which the unit was transitioning.

That's interesting...Günther Lützow is believed to have flown 6-10 until the end of August. That would make him a Bf109A ace with 5 kills in that subtype.
Rolf Pingel might have equalled that score (3-5 kills) but he is known also to have used 6-21, too.
Peter Boddem (2-9 kills) might even have surpassed Lützow but I don't know his serial.

Hello

The denomination Bf.109 B-1/B-2 does not exist....it's Bf0109 A and Bf.109 B.

First "abschus" with a Bf109 A:6/4/37 (Lützow a Curtis;probably actually a Letow S.231)

First "abschus" with a Bf.109 B:27/08/37(Harder)

After the arrival of the Bf.109 B,the surviving Bf.109 A were upgraded (autumn 1937)
The significant changes were the installation of a metal,variable-pitch propeller and the replacement of the removable cowling sections with Bf.109 B-type incorporating cooling vents.
The surviving examples of the Bf.109 A were indistinguishable from the Bf.109 B

Top "Abschusse" Bf.109 A:6.10 (15),6.16 (7:Fleischmann=3,Oesau=2)

Lützof=5 with Model A
Pingel=5 with Model A
Boddem=8 (+2 unc.) with Model A
Fleischmann=3 with Model A (6.16)
Radusch=1 with Model A
Höness=3 with Model A
Ihlefeld=2+ with Model A
Oesau=3 with Model A (1 with 6.6,2 with 6.16)
Flegel=1(+3 unc.) with model A (6.7?)

Regards
Michel
