Info on USAAF air crew

Hello folks

Can anyone help me with any information on the following US pilots. I'm looking for any information on awards received such as air medals, DFC's etc and any claims. I have found bits mostly on claims but some are contrasting to others and vague. Frank's book Stars & Bars has been a great help for the aces but am struggling to find info on the following even after scouring the web. They are mostly 56th and 352nd FG pilots. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Lyle Adrianse (56th - 2 claims?), Granville C Coggs (Tuskeegee), Richard Creamer (352nd - 2 Air Medals?), Walter Diamond (352nd - 1 destroyed & 1 damaged?), Walter 'Wally' Groce (56th - 3 destroyed, 1 shared?), Nelson Jessup (352nd - 4 destroyed?), Russell Kyler (56th - 3 destroyed, 7 ground), John McClure (56th), Edgar Whitley (56th).

Thanks again

Graeme

Have you looked at this site? The spelling of the names some of the men you listed are different on this list:

Other lists, such as ground victories, can be found in the United States of America section towards the bottom of the page here:

I can't help with 332FG I'm afraid. You'll have to look elsewhere. The pdf download gives you claims but not the type of enemy aircraft involved. The pilot cards for the three 352nd FG guys are attached and this will give you dates, types and decorations. Please note that Diamond is Walker and not Walter. The 56th FG is a little more difficult as I do not keep records of decorations. However, these are the claims for the 56th FG guys:

Adrianse, 63FS
1 x FW190 destroyed air 3rd September 1943
1 x FW190 damaged air 5th November 1943
1 x Me110 destroyed air 22nd February 1944.

Groce 63FS
1 x He111 destroyed air 28th August 1944
1 x Me109 damaged ground 8th September 1944
0.5 Me262 destroyed air 1st November 1944 (shared with Lt. Gerbe 352FG)
1 x Me109 destroyed air + 1 x Me109 damaged air 2nd December 1944
1 x u/i a/c damaged ground 4th December 1944

Kyler 61FS

1 x FW190 destroyed air 21st September 1944
1 x FW190 destroyed air 18th November 1944
1 x Me109 destroyed air 14th January 1944
1 x Me109 + 1 x u/i a/c destroyed ground 10th April 1945
4 x Ju88 + 1 x Me410 destroyed ground 13th April 1945

McClure

John McClure 62FS only flew three missions and became POW on 29th April 1943. No claims made

Whitley 63FS
1 x Me110 destroyed air + 1 x Me110 damaged air 17th August 1943
1 x Me109 destroyed air 18th August 1943

Transferred to VIII Fighter Command September 1943.

Think that covers it.

Peter
