Thank you, Snautzer. I must say the fuselage code is unusual, and even the way it was applied.

It was collected and tested by the Chef-AW that followed in the wake of the German advance into Russian held territory. The No 06 was the 6th aircraft.

Very nice photo!!

First time I see this type of registration beside the more famous I-16 carrying AW+10.
It is interesting to speculate what the others could have been.
It is believed five VEF I-17 were flown to Germany. Maybe they became AW+05 to AW+09? But if so what was AW+01 to AW-04?

Cheers

Hi Stig - I did have a list somewhere but cannot locate this at present
AW+08 was a SV5
AW+12 was a Magister
AW+17 was a I-12

Thanks Tom

Interesting to see the numbers going all the way up to 17!
All those listed so far are Latvian aircraft, but I have a hard time to find 17 survivors which could have been captured by Luftwaffe when they occupied the country. After all the Soviet Union had 'played' with them for a while as well. A Load of Gladiators?

Any takers for a list? :)

Cheers
Stig
