It was collected and tested by the Chef-AW that followed in the wake of the German advance into Russian held territory. The No 06 was the 6th aircraft.

Very nice photo!!
First time I see this type of registration beside the more famous I-16 carrying AW+10. It is interesting to speculate what the others could have been. It is believed five VEF I-17 were flown to Germany. Maybe they became AW+05 to AW+09? But if so what was AW+01 to AW-04? Cheers Stig |

AW+08 was a SV5 AW+12 was a Magister AW+17 was a I-12 Tom |

Interesting to see the numbers going all the way up to 17! All those listed so far are Latvian aircraft, but I have a hard time to find 17 survivors which could have been captured by Luftwaffe when they occupied the country. After all the Soviet Union had 'played' with them for a while as well. A Load of Gladiators? Any takers for a list? :) Cheers Stig |
