Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi there Gang!
I have an issue with the following G-6: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...57625383083572 The W.Nr. is barely legible as (1)63 606 and if confirmed points on a Mtt Regensburg Bf 109 G-6. As for the unit, my first thought was for a JG 26 plane, given the small white band and what I took as an equivalent black band, thus being the JG 26 RVB. On scrutinizing the photograph, I'm not sure anymore about this interpretation. One will notice the very dark though mottled camouflage, and it could be thus possible that only a white band was applied. Lastly, there is a location issue: according to FrankD8, the original e-bay seller ascertained this machine was found at Salzburg. The landscape and especially the tall pines does not make this really likely. Any thoughts on those issues are highly appreciated Marc |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
High tail, maybe not G-6?

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Those were easily retrofitted, Srecko... not a definitive clue, alas.
What do you think of this very peculiar camouflage? Cheers Marc |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Looks to be a training aircraft to me. I've seen that band before on some.. JG101(?) I think?

Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Hi all,
FrankD8 is my newly created Flickr account. Original source of those "Salzburg" images and additional info can be found here: http://www.luftwaffe-experten.org/fo...=1&#entry55512 The owner labeled these shots as "Salzburg", but of course he could have remembered wrongly. This happened not so seldom as one might think. Regards, Christian |
Re: Late war Bf 109 pictures source
Thanks for your input Srecko; if you look at the other two pictures of this machine, one can notice it has a replacement engine cowling (and engine?) and that the remainder of the fuselage is in a very heavy dark mottle.
As for the wing camouflage pattern would a combination of RLM 81 and RLM 83 be out of place? All told, this machine is, excepting the Bodenwöhr RLM 76 snake pattern on the lower fuselage, quite a close match for the Bf 109 K-4 "Weisse 8" of II./JG 52 you can find here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2809206...57625380126592 Though shifting on the red, this color shot does show RLM 81 and another dark green (RLM 83?). Cheers Marc |

Danke Christian!
For your inputs on the stream;-)) Maybe Simon will help us here to check for the plausibility this being Salzburg? The vegetation strongly speaks against this, though... Cheers Marc |
