Having visited the ebay page I noted that his logbook, according to the descriptive BS....

Actually, if you look at the sample log book page at the bottom of the eBay display, you'll see a page on which the entries were written in red ink. The pilot recorded flying an F4U-1D and an FG-1D on several launches off USS Bennington. However, in his handwriting, the "U" in F4U resembles a "0", so I think the eBay seller simply misread the log entry as "F40." Not that that confirms the authenticity of this item ... !

If he flew off the Bennington in Corsairs he was in VMF-112 and flew with my cousin. Don who was the Flight Officer (3rd in command after Hap Hansen and David Andre) scored 5 kills before he was killed.
