Is there any problem with copying eBay photos?

I see a lot of links to eBay on here with requests for info which is great fun.

But if we copy and paste these photos on to the Forum as a permanent record, to retain the photo once the eBay sale ends - and make future reference to old threads worthwhile, is there a problem with that?

Your thoughts?

Hi
in my opinion no, as with e bay auctions the new photo owner does not have copyright, only owns the photo, despite what they believe.

LEMB has a great rule, allows photos and if the new owner objects they can be removed.

copyright has been debated much on the boards and and will be in the future, no doubt, but certain things have to be met to have the copyright, usually at least an original negative taken by the owner of the photo.

But the general internet rule seems to be it is Ok to post just credit the link.

Let's post and all learn from what we see.

cheers
Jerry

There is in general no problem to hot link images or even to stored on other server if the material is used in non commercial way. It is good to mention source and give link, this give credit as well direction to other people where to search for more or ask for contact. As I know on ebay were used my color profiles as the promotion to sale some other products. As well the same profiles was not subject of sales, and they was hot linked from my site, I never take any action about this. I left to this person to make its income for life.

Cheers :)

Actually I have been looking at other sites and most post the photo and give the credit for it ie eBay.de but at least the photo survives longer than the eBay link does, when the sale goes through.
