If there was an Association, as far as I am aware it is no longer active like many of the Sqns. Not enough wartime members left (if at all)

The F540 is available online from the National Archives & should give an account of the mission

The combat report is in Air 50/63-62. Dated June 21, 1944 at 0030 hours. Crew was F/Lt L C Gregory and F/O R W Usher, in MM437. Does anyone have their full names and service numbers?

On June 22, 1944 at 1630 hours they shared a FW 200 damaged.

Enjoy!

Frank.

Re: About 151 Squadron RAF

Frank,

Using a combination of the January 1944 Air Force List and the London Gazette;

60336 Leonard Charles Gregory DFC
DFC in 1941 while a 149 Squadron bomber pilot. He was the only 'L. C. Gregory' on the January 1944 Air Force List.

153476 Reginald William Harold Usher
A Pilot Officer Navigator on the same A. F. List. There are two 'R.W. Usher' on this list, but the other was a Flying officer in the Administrative Section.

Regards,

Martin Gleeson.

Re: About 151 Squadron RAF

Martin,
Many thanks for the full names and serials. Two more holes filled in my database. I don't suppose you have any information on Capt. J W Bray, USAAF, also in 151 Squadron. I think he is the Jack W Bray I have found in a post-war USAF Officers Register, but I can't be certain.

Ballanger,
Sorry for the confusion on my part. The combat report I noted is not for your two crews. I do not have any entries in my database of combat claims for these two crews for June 20, 1944. The database is limited to air-to-air claims, so if they made ground claims I wouldn't have listed them. However, the NA/PRO catalog does not show an AIR 50 entry for Harrison on June 20, 1944.

Enjoy!

Frank.

That is the same Gregory. His combat is in my Condor book & he told me all about his award for the DFC. I also have photos of him & his Wellington. No longer with us of course

I did, and found some interessting data for me:

April 11
This was to be one of the finest days for victories in the history of 151. Squadron, in which a total of six Ju 88's were destroyed, one Ju 88 was probably destroyed, three Ju 88's were damaged, and one flak ship damaged. Unfortunately, the memorable day was marred by the loss of two valuable crews in the actions which took place.

Beim Geleit für das einlaufende U 255 wird Sperrbrecher 168 vor der Loiremündung durch Angriff von Mosquitos schwer beschädigt.
Looking in my archive I found in the KTB Marinegruppenkommando West:
Quote:

11.04.1944:
[sorry, but the following page in the KTB is missing].

Additional data from KTB des Befehlshabers der Sicherung West:
The 4 M-Boote were: M 495, M 404, M 263, M 366. All escorts claim together 4 Mosquitos shot down. Of the 10 Ju 88 were 3 shot down. U 255 was not damaged.
M 366 and the Vp-Boote V 627 and V 628 (which left the harbour at 1215) are looking for survivors. Also at 1250 12 Ju 88 are sent to look for survivors. X. Fliegerkorps reports later, 8 Ju 88 got back, 4 are lost. The Vp-Boote return at 1900 without success.

Regards

Darius
