Trying to find information on Luftwaffe unit involved in a skirmish on August 16th 1940, Portsmouth area of England

In that day's action Tim Elkington, RAF No.1 Squadron, was shot down and injured while engaged with a large number of enemy aircraft in the Portsmouth area.

I'm just wondering if there is any way of finding out which units/aircraft were involved and if any claims were made against Hurricane's that day?

Claims were:

2 Spitfires by II/JG 27
2 Hurricanes by III/JG 27
2 Hurricanes by II/JG 53
1 Hurricane by I/JG 2
1 Hurricane & 1 Spitfire by III/StG 2

I was involved many years ago in digging up his Hurricane at Chidham

I have a very detailed account of the Luftwaffe operations over England that day from the EoE translation of the Heinrich Weiss manuscript. However, it looks like Chris Goss has answered your main questions.
