Bit of a long shot but....

I am trying to trace any information about a (I believe French) chap who joined the RAF during WWII and served (again, I believe) as an instructor in Scotland and/or Yorkshire. He became operational once again for the D-Day invaisions

His name was Ben Lenson (although it was originally Ben Levinson but he changed it for fear of being taken prisoner as he was Jewish)

Like I said it is a bit of a long shot but of anybody could shed some light I would be most grateful. In particular I would like to find out his rank.

Could it be this person

LENSON, Benjamin, FO - DFC - 450914 - 193 Sqn - RAFVR

Still looking, this is all I can find at the moment

Kind regards
Ross

Re: Bit of a long shot but....

Ned,

Lenson is also mentioned a few times in the three volumes of 2nd TAF by Shores and Thomas.

24-5-44: hit by flak nr Amiens, his Typhoon is damaged.

18-4-45: hit by flak, bailed out Allied territory, Friesoythe, Germany, Typhoon RB482.

He's also mentioned (or rather 193 Squadron) in connection with the first stories about "Who Got Rommel" on 17-7-1944. But that's quite another history, as witnessed in another thread on this website....

Regards,

Leendert
