Paul Steindl

Hello,

Does anybody know when Paul Steindl (10 victories, KIA in January 1945 with JG26) started his fighter career (which unit, date?).

He was with JG 54 in late 1940 thru at least the Balkans campaign. There are several well-known photos of him and his bomb carrying 109E on the ground and in flight. These photos ARE NOT from the Eastern Front in 1942 as repeated in way-too-many photo captions.

Hello Jim,

Thank you for the interesting information. Could you tell me in which book I could find photos of him? Is by any chance a photo showing him with his oxygen mask?

His death notice in 1945 said that he was in action for over 5 years, so I assume he started his combat career already in 1939.
