Prayer to Jochen Prien

I am 65 and I'd like to know if I will ever see the last volume of your encyclopedia.

The world's oldest man, a Japanese, just died these days, aged 116.
So, don't loose hope, C-J! :)

Re: Prayer to Jochen Prien

Dear Chris,

just hold on a bit, we're working on it. Let's see what is left - JFV 12/III will go to the printer in September and chances are that it will be out before the end of the year, thus bringing an end to 1943.

Then -1944. JFV 13 will be split into three main chapters, i.e. Reichsverteidigung from January 1st to September 30th, 1944, then West including the invasion, also January 1st to September 30th and finally Reichsverteidigung and West from October 1st to December 31st. The date of September 30th marks the end of Lfl. 3. All told at least three volumes.

MTO in 1944 - JFV 14 - will be a rather small volume, whereas the eastern front will be a nightmare to tackle. 1943 was bad enough. Yet, it looks as though we'll have to face another triple as JFV 15.

JFV 16 - the end in 1945 may result in another two volumes. So all told we'll have to do at least another nine plus volumes, what with an optimistic rate of two per year would bring us well into 2017, a total of 31 + volumes over a period of then 18 years.

Don't you think it would be me who should pray ?

Anaway, thanks for your incentive.

Kind regards

Jochen Prien

Shame!

Nick,

as compared to JFV 11 with two volumes and a very substantial photo-coverage it will be difficult to stretch the 1944 material to anywhere near there - or did I miss something ?

Cheers

Hello All,

I want to start collecting the earlier volumes in this series. Are they still readily available from the author/publishers, or am l at the mercy of rapacious second-hand dealers?

Re: Prayer to Jochen Prien

Col,

they're all still available through the - new - publisher Rogge Verlag GmbH or through Chrstian Schmidt KG in Munich with some of the earler volmes petering out. You can find both addresses on the net.

Regards

Jochen Prien

Hi Jochen, I guess it's hard when they withdrew so many fighters from the Mediterranean and they were all gone by early September. But I always hope for undiscovered "treasure" on this particular topic (and I recently found a little: some more about Uffz. Walter Lang of 1./JG 200 which I plan to add to my website in July).

Things I have missed (but maybe you haven't!) include these aspects of I./JG 2's time in Italy, and JG 200's daily operational report for 31 July 1944.

Hello Jochen,

I'd like to know if in the structure of Vol. 13 there will be a general part on the Reichsverteidigung alone giving a day to day account of aerial daylight operations over the Reich in 1944 as for Vol 10/I.

Best regards

Marco

Mr. Prien,

first of all let me thank you for your excellent work. I do have one question for you. Will we ever see the other volumes of JG 3 in English? I have the first two that were published by Schiffer.

Thanks again,

James Sontag
