Crete raid June 1942 - Lw losses?
Hi guys
In June 1942, SBS and SAS groups raided airfields on Crete. According to what I have read, 5 Ju88s were destroyed at Kastelli, and a futher 29 damaged, while at Heraklion 16 or 17 Ju88s were claimed destroyed or badly damaged, plus a Fi156. Has anyone details of actual losses, please? Cheers Brian |

Perhaps a view from the German side would be helpful:

I don't think there were any paratroopers on Crete in June 1942?

Come to think of it, I would guess the ULTRA intercept files might contain some info. That might be the best bet to ID the actual damage.
In the case of Agedabia 24 December 41, SAS overclaimed damage significantly. ISTR they claimed 37 destroyed, reality was 19, I think. Still an achievement. All the best Andreas |

Hi.
I think the best bet is to use the loss records. If you could provide dates and locations for the SAS/SBS claims, I think I can assist with details. To me it seems Iraklion or Heraklion was hit on June 14th, I have at least 9 Ju 88 destroyed in sabotage action there on that date. Regards, Andreas B |
