Many thanks for this link. The picture is published in Prien and Stemmer 1996, p. 321; it does show a majority of Erla built Bf 109 G-6's of 6./JG 3, seen at Rotenburg in February 1944.

Taking a benefit from my free Christmas time, I'm doing some caption upgrades. And I'm stuck by this pic of "Weisse 3", a late Mtt-Waldwerk Bf 109 K-4 W.Nr. 334xx4.

I do believe these images were taken by the same RCAF individual who photographed the D-13, Yellow Ten. I am Kilometres apart from my reference material, and it's bugg'n me that I can't remember the name of the photographer. He was a night fighter pilot on Mossies, either No.409 or 410 Squadron, RCAF. From there you might be able to identify the local as Hildebrandt was protective of his sources to the point it cost him.

Many thanks for your lead! The name given as a credit for that pic by Hildebrandt 1989 is Finlayson. There were two Flinlayson:

- F/L Ross Hunter Finlayson, 409 RCAF Sqn.
- F/O C. Finlayson, Navigator, 410 RCAF Sqn.

Trying now to narrow down where those two Squadrons were based in Germany. Will keep you posted.

Hello everyone,

Crashed Enemy Report (CEA269) indicates that Finlayson’s photo was taken at Fl.Pl. Rheine. Bf109K-4 3+ White is possibly WNr. 33X444. The unmarked Bf109K-4 in the background is either 33X808 or 33X828; both are listed as being at abandoned wingless at Rheine.

My sources are: CEA269, Broken Eagles#3 and A311/RAF.

You did it once again! A real Christmas gift indeed… Rheine-Hopsten it is. Both machines are probably from the 334 xxx block, given the low-vis Mtt-Bodenwöhr camouflage, as the highest recorded W.Nr. in the 335 xxx block is - to my knowledge - 335 213. I will suggest thus cautiously W.Nr. 334 444 for "Weisse 3" and 334 808 for the background machine.

What other airfields does CEA269 cover?

Hi there Folks, and all the best for 2014!

I just found a very intriguing pic of an Mtt-Regensburg built Bf 109 which I think is a G-14 (note the tall tail wheel strut). I do suppose it belonged to a training unit, given its high "Schwarze 3" tactical number. Wondering if anyone knows the location and the unit?

Schwarze 3 or Schwarze 31 ??
No idea but a Training unit for sure and a G-14 too.
We already found a lot of G-14s in training units with long tail Wheel.

And all my warm wishes for 2014! I just got hold of a very interesting pic showing an engineless Mtt-Regensburg built Bf 109 G-14 (IMHO, not the least because of its long tail wheel strut), depicted in the winter 1944-1945 somewhere in Germany. Because of its high tactical number, I do tend to think that "Schwarze 31" was part of a training unit.

I would be glad to know more about location and unit.
