Did Ruststand M2 mean four external bomb racks? I'm sure I have the necessary reference somewhere but I can't find it at the moment.

Very probably but, like I said, I couldn't find the reference and just at the moment I'm more interested in a definition of M2 than a language lesson. But please don't think I'm not touched by your concern for my education.

I don´t find that many C-6 or R-2 with any ETC´s, so I think your M2 means the equipment in Rear-Bay (definition coming up from A-1 data..)
Your education is not a concern of any of my worries.

1) Thank you very much. The basis for my enquiry was a deciphered message of 4 December 1943:

CX/MSS/T23/20
Source was able to copy a file of reports dated 4/12.
…
((7)) At 1213. (Roman) I./ZG 1 reports: 15 Ju 88 being re-equipped with M2. Ready at Tours by 1600 hrs.

I should add that this wasn't really happening, the signal related to an anti-invasion war game.

2) "concern of any of my worries" … while we're improving one another's language skills, those words are tautologous.

You will find full description of that Rüstsatz M 2 in the following manual:
D.(Luft) T. 2088 C-6, Teil 12 G. If you don't find it in any internet site, you can always buy it from Udo Hafner.

Thanks everyone, this is interesting because there are references to the unit dropping AB 23 and SD 2 earlier in the same war game (which I think was purely a paper exercise). The inference may be that some of I./ZG 1's aircraft were already capable of carrying bombs but that others had to be refitted.
