Ju 352 losses
 
I am looking for information on Ju 352 losses here is what I know:
V6 was damaged or destroyed in a ground collision with a Ju 188E

21 Apr 45 1 Hit trees on a Berlin-Munich flight with Hitler's archives and valet on board Maj F. Gundlinger pilot all KIC except the gunner

24/25 Apr 45 4 lost while trying to supply the German 9th army

26/27 Apr 45 2 shotdown by Russian AA while trying to fly reinforcements into Berlin

The RAF captured 3 of them

Czechs used 1 (+) post war

Soviets used 1 post war possibly A3+AB #100023 of 1/KG 200

- At war end in Prag/Ruzyn - Surrendered May 1945 - Czechoslovakian type D-352 [OK-JUE] - Temporarely painted in Soviet markings for a flight to Moscow (22.08.1945) but reverted to Czech markings on return - Used to 1947 (then scraped)

A3+AB was Ju 290 A-5(?) 2900110171

I have a few more incidents, indenties, Stkz. etc. but not more operational losses.

Some time ago another researcher gave me known names of those lost in KT+VC on 21-4-45 as Ff Maj Friedrich Gundlfinger +, Bm Ofw Wilhelm Budack +. Bs Uffz Franz Westermair w, Passengers from LAH HptschFhrs. Wilhelm Arndt + and Max Fiebers +, rank unknown Gerhard Becker badly inj died,

Your listing of the Ju 352 WNr looks odd when comparing it with published information. Manfred Griehl states in Flugzeug 5/93 that they were 100001 to 100044.

I have no further information post that article. What is your source?

Hi Stig,
Mostly test pilots logbooks, pilot Alfred Grundke flew 39 of them 45 built, his logbook has also all in later batch (except two first) and confirms Stkz., in both batches, but one other test pilot (one case of five digit serial) and two GQM losses (both four digit) seem line up first batch, combined with other info sources do indicate two batches, both starting at 0001. I do not have all relevant pages from Lieferplans for these, but think total built is about correct.

I do not know of Griehls sources.

Ju 352 emergency landed west of Thisted 4/5 1945.


The aircraft belonged to Grossraumstaffel and was coded G6+NX
T/o Fehmarn Op: Eggebek (Escape).


The aircraft took off from Fliegerhorst Grossenbrode heading for Eggebek on the morning of 4/5 to get away from the Russians together with a second Ju 352.

It was however decided to try to reach Frederikshavn even though only two of the aircrafts three engines were running properly. On board were Pilot Arthur Kürth and his Danish fiancé Aase Krogh a Second pilot , the navigator and 2 soldiers.

They headed north up the Jylland peninsula at low altitude to escape attention of fighter. As they had lost the map they came too far west and when the reached the Thisted area they were low and fuel and the engines were running rough.
It was necessary to land and when Arthur Kürth spotted a field of sufficient length he landed the aircraft. It was a bumpy ride over the fields and tracks and the two passengers were thrown around in the fuselage. The time was 07:25 hrs and the place was Rosvang farm about 7 kilometres south west of Thisted.
Later on the same day the crew was transported to the former Fliegerhorst See Dragsbæk in Thisted.


The aircraft was left in the field for a couple of weeks before it was dismantled and taken to Fliegerhorst Aalborg West by “Zonen” rescue service. (Denmark was liberated on 5/5 1945.)

Fair enough even if I personally think it is strange to lay out two batches with such similar Wnr ranges.
No idea by the way what Griehl has used for his sources...:(

I note one more discrepancy. Brian Bines mentions WNr 100029 as damaged on 16.2.1945. You state only 45 Ju 352 were built (presumably out of the 50 WNr you list), which, if built in order, means 352 10001 to 10020 and 352 100001 to 100025. How then do we explain WNr 100029?

Finally I am also interested in the Stkz of the Ju 352
From Griehl I have for 352 10001 to 352 10020 (I have now deleted one zero from his batch) CH+JA to CH+JT. Is that correct?
From those you mention is it correct to asssume WNr 352 100001 to 100025 were KT+VA to KT+VY?
Also if WNr 352 100026 to 100030 in fact were built, what were their Stkz?
Guessing, I suppose 352 100026 could have been KT+VZ, but then again what about the rest?

Stig, I do not get your sayin this be strange. I do not care if my answer agrees with previously published info or not, and had certainly not thought any of what others had written before.

This was began with blank sheet, fact finding for myself only, you can call it search or research (your pick) and I was only trying help, answer what I think I could answer. Do I always have to proof all I write?

One error was in my earlier post, it was intended to be that Grundke flew 39 out of 45 (really this should be confirmed built) - in effect I have some info on 45 a/c, but four/five I have no info of, as of now.

Those I know nothing of are CH+JJ, KT+VA, KT+VB and KT+VF. GQM reported ´0011 and ´0017 could be in either, in earlier or second bach, but I have info on 100011 and 100017 in second bach, so if ´0011 was not in earlier batch, then I have no info on five, but as I have other separate info on (´0017) CH+JQ that number is considered confirmed. Of course this is not final, only what I have now. Info comes along and I add this as it surfaces. This will not be doctoral thesis, so no time limit.

But note. Earlier batch could have more digit in their serials, five digits are confirmed, with the relavant Stkz, but I am not saying which.
Stkz. blocks were CH+JA to CH+JT (20), and KT+VA to KT+VZ, and SM+XA to SM+XD (30): Two damaged in GQM reports concern 0011 80% and 0017 35%, I have not checked dam % or dates, or figure out if it can be found out easily which batch they really belonged to. I simply do not have the data to compare those with.

Its been years since I did update this type, maybe there is more but its yet unprocessed, and I have not extracted all relevant flight dates from the Grundke logbook. Maybe I should.

This reference states 43 at Fritzlar, 7 by Letov (50).
