Staffelkapitän 5./JG 54 Wilhelm Schilling

Hope you all had a Great Christmas.

I have been trying to identify all those names that have escaped me on the mikrofilms.

One on 24th July 1944 an Il-2 at 1550 hrs with 5./JG 54 is a case of a deformity in the mikrofilm. But it's an Oberleutnant, name ends "ling" first letters unreadable. I personally suspect this is Wilhelm Schilling, but have all his claims with 9./JG 54. Whoever it is would be the Staffelkapitän of 5./JG 54(perhaps directly after Emil Lang), and I think Schilling was from 9th April 1944 until an unknown date. This would be Schilling's only claim with 5./JG 54 if it is him !

Would anybody happen to know the Staffelkapitän was at this date, and until what date.

Likewise I have an Oberleutant with 13./JG 54 on 14th September 1943 an Il-2 at 1645 hrs, again this should be the Staffelkapitän, he would have no other claims with this Staffel, his name reads something like "Püssar" or "Püssan".

Kind Regards

Johannes

Re: Staffelkapitän 5./JG 54 Wilhelm Schilling

Hi Leo

Many thanks for that. Although I cannot completely see the name, it must in fact be Schilling's 48th claim I make it. Calculated crash-site 15km SW Narva. I think Schilling was an honest claimer.

Found another anomaly with a 12./JG 51 pilot, a Hauptmann, but could never identify. Today worked out it was Gonzalo Hevia Alvarez de Quinones of 15./JG 51 a Jak-1 on 14th April 1943 at 0912 hrs 2kn NE Kurst at 2800 metres. Strange thing is the anerk nr. is for 12./JG 51. Perhaps he was a guest there or something ?

And Identified another claim for Lothar Myrrhe of 5./JG 3 a P-39 and 1610 hrs on 14th April 1943 at 600 metres. I make it his 18th.
So I have no unidentified names at all now for JG 3. Only one to find with JG 51, and three to find with JG 54.

Thanks again

Yours Happily

Johannes

P.S

Some others to get our collective teeth into are:-

17th July 1944 Il-2 1646 hrs Stab./JG 54 Uffz "Oschstromp"

9th April 1944 LaGG-3 1600 hrs 12./JG 54 Fw "Hartmut Wicheus"

Re: Staffelkapitän 5./JG 54 Wilhelm Schilling

Hi Leo

Many thanks for taking the time to help.

I do have a few further questions.

I am not a computer expert, born way before they were in schools. How do I clip an image to this thread?

JFV is this Jochen Prien's work?

Regarding Wilkens, is there any lost details for this one claim pilot? I should think he didn't survive, or possibly transfered to a training unit.

Regarding Betram it's a stretch to get this name, but it sits over a crossed-out "Günther". However the "G" from the crossed-through forename does loop-up onto the beginning of the surname, which leads me to believe you are correct.

With Myrrhe it's April 1943(Ost) the worst of all mikrofilms to read, even the dates are hard to establish as they run only roughly in order. I spent hours looking at the image which I had isolated, only got it by altering the background colour are contrast. Thought it could be Dohse, but am sure it a Leutnant, originally thought 16th April 1943.

Another mystery solved with Hevia, I should think whoever scribed the mikrofilm for JG 51 made a mistake with the Staffel number.

Regarding the claim for 14th September 1943 1645 hrs Il-2 with 13./JG 54 name Oblt "Püssan" or something similar. I wondered if this could again be another one claimer. It's an unlikely name though

Another oddity I have is 18th March 1943 0715 hrs a Pe-2 with 1./JG 51. The problem is not the mikrofilm in this case(It's clear). Basically the name looks like Uffz "Arensmeyer" this would be another one claimer. But this cannot be Elmar Arensmeyer for many reasons i.e too soon, he was still in training, another big one is wrong Gruppe.

Kind Regards

Johannes

Johannes

Hartmut Wilkens of IV./JG 54 was killed in the unit Ju52 hack a few days later on the 16 April
(see http://forum.12oclockhigh.net/showthread.php?t=23438 )

13./JG 54 didn't exist on 14.09.43 suggest it's the wrong unit thus 13.(Slow)/JG 52 with Oblt Juraj Puskar.

For 18.03.43 Arensmeyer, this is likely Uffz Ferdinand Strohmeyer who crashed with I./JG 51 on 07.06.43 but was OK. He later went to 1./JG 1 and was MIA/KIA on 14.07.44 near Caen over the invasion front. - looks like his only claim.

Look at the posting photos sticky under General Johannes and JFV is as you say

Hi Craig

Many thanks for that.

I will check Strohmeyer against other JG 51 names beginning "Str" . But is does sound good.

With Juraj Puskar, I did have that notion niggling in my head. Checked the anerk nr. 190 against those of 13./JG 52 and found I had already come to that same conclusion and the claim was already in my JG 52 file. Call it another senior moment, I had merely forgot to delete it from my JG 54 file......and what work it had cost me.

Thanks again

Johannes
