Fw.Gerhard HERZOG (HALUPCZEK) 2./JG 26

Hi,
Please provide information about Fw.Gerhard HERZOG (HALUPCZEK) J 88, 2./JG 26.
I know almost nothing about his life after returning from captivity.I have information that he died in 1983. Does anyone know the exact date and place of death?I would also like to welcome other information about this pilot.
Thank you very much,
best regards
Tony

Very little else is known about his time after being captured (by which time he had changed his name). His signature comes up on a birthday card to a JG 26 pilot with him as a POW in Canada

Thank you very much Chris,
Halupczek changed his name in the spring of 1940.
Could I please see that birthday wish?
I am very interested in everything related to 2.Staffel JG 26.
Thank you very much, best regards
Tony

...and before anyone asks, I have identified all and can post if they want but if in isolation, might be a good thing to work out take up some time!

Thank you, Chris, this is a beautiful piece of history. When did these pilots return home?
I don't have much for this pilot in my collection. I'm sending a photo of his Bf 109 from Spain.

On the side note, in Karl Ries/Hans Ring book The Legion Condor, in the Appendix L Combat Score Listing of Jagdgruppe 88, victory claim No.307, a Curtiss, was attributed to Uffz. Halupczek, while the claim No.308, another Curtiss, was attributed to Uffz. Herzog. On the same day, 6 February 1939. What an over-claimer he was.

In the List of Pilots with Victories, the pilot was also listed twice, once as Uffz. Halupczek and once as Uffz. Herzog.

It's one man and only one aerial victory.

Of course it was one man and one aerial victory. It was just recorded twice.

That's a fantastic document, Chris, with some great autographs.
