Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
In Jerry Crandall's book on Dora-9 (Vol2. page 126-127) a Fw 190D-9 with markings -+-> is identified as an aircraft from Stab SG 2. How sure are we that this a/c belonged SG 2?

Hello, John!
It is better to see a photo before an answer, I think. At least what is date of photo? |
Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
Hello John.
It wasn't the plane of Rudel for a short time ? Lumabe |

Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
The point is there is no evidence, accept what these books have written. Is there any documentary evidence that Stab SG 2 had D-9's? The markings look like SG 2 as a TOCH member pointed out to me, but I still feel there is room for doubt. Why not II./JG 6?

Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
The plane of Gerhard Bakhorn had the same marking of the Geschwader Kommodor (Wing Commander ) with the JG 6. Is it possible two plane from the same unit have the same marking ?
Best regards, Lumabe. |
Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
John,
Agree. I've never seen any evidence to suggest this is Stab./SG2, other than the similarity in markings to Rudel's Ju 87. I've not seen any evidence for any Fw 190Ds in SG2 (Stab. or otherwise), only in 5./SG10 - losses I have noted also only record Fw 190Fs (all F-8s) and Ju 87 (all Gs) in Stab./SG2 |
Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
Hi,
At the end of the war, H.U. Rudel commanded the "Gefechtsverband Rudel" group of units Stab SG 2, II./SG 2, 10.(Pz)/SG 2, I./SG 77 and II./Jagdgeschwader 6. Perhaps it is more accurate to say that the Fw 190 D-9 used the "Gefechtsverband Rudel" (II./JG 6), not SG 2 itself. best regards Tony |
Re: Stab SG 2 Fw 190D-9
Yeah, but that Gefechtsverband Rudel only existed when they were stationed at Niemes Süd and that was from April 21st onwards. Need to check when Grossenhain was occupied. Does anybody have an idea if this picture is taken at Grossenhain for 100% certainty?
