3/JG 54 loss on the 14 Nov 1941

While going through Prien’s JFV 6/II for the 14 Nov 1941 there is a mid-air collision of two 3. Staffel Bf 109. Fhr. Wolfgang Leu was listed as killed and Obfw. Bruno Preuss as missing very little is mentioned in the text narrative. The location is what I am looking to obtain, it lists Newaknie/Leningrad. There is two claims from the Soviet 7 IAK at 15:40 (Moscow) which is 14:40 (Berlin) that I’m trying to separate or establish if these losses might match. If this was a collision during a dogfight or just an accident is what I’m looking to determine also.

Hello,

Could you please identify your source for the location: "Krasnowardeisk (Raum)"?

Newaknie should read "Newa Knie", or bend of the Neva river, in plain English. There are two big bends in that river, one near Smolny within the city of St. Petersburg / Leningrad, and the other at Otradnoe, south-east of the city. Both locations are dozens of kilometres away from Gatchina / Krasnogvardeysk, but a reference to the "Krasnogvardeysk area" in the loss records is sufficiently vague to allow for the possibility that the incident could have occurred near Otradnoe.

Regards,

Dan
