12/08/1940;British losses
 
Hi

I have several questions about the British losses that day.

How many losses in total(including damaged)?
By compiling my varius sources,I was able to identify;

Wight island-12h50-13h20 (german time)
266 Sqd=2
257 Sqd=2
145 Sqd=3
152 Sqd=2
213 Sqd=2

according Mombeek 253 Sqd=1 ????

Folkestone/Dover 9h20 (german time)
610 Sqd=3+ 1 damaged

Dover/Folkestone 18h20 (german time)
64 Sqd=??(2 or 3) source Caldwell

Ramsgate/Margate 12h15 (german time)
32S qd=1
501 Sq=2
151 Sq=3
54 Sqd=1

43 Sqd=1 ?

Thanks in advance for corrections or precisions

Hello Michel,

From the Tony Woods files there were 14 Hurricane, 27 Spitfire and 1 Morain Claim's made for the 12th August 1940. Total claimed 42.

I have 13 Hurricane losses and 9 Spitfire Losses

Your total = 26 so I am 4 short of your total number.

266 - 2 Spitfire's - N3175; P9333.
257 - 2 Hurricane's - P3662; P3776.
145 - 3 Hurricane's - R4176; R4180; P3391.
152 - 2 Spitfire's - K9999; P9456.
213 - 2 Hurricane's - P2802; P2854.
253 - 0
610 - 4 Spitfire's - K9818; L1044; P9495; R6806.
64 - 1 Spitfire - X4018.
32 - 1 Hurricane - N2596.
501 - 1 Hurricane - P3803.
151 - 2 Hurricane's - P3302; P3304.
54 - 0
43 - 1 Hurricane - R4108.
56 - 1 Hurricane - P2970.

I don't have quite the same claims by Luftwaffe.

35 claims by Bf.109 + 22 by Bf.110 =57

from various sources,I have (151°Sq: hurricanes P 3302,P 3304 + PO Debenham badly shot up,serial unknown)

54°Sqd:N3160 shot down Datford (59 miles of Margate by the road)

According Caldwell and new book on JG54:two Hurricanes of 56°Sqd (P 2970 and ??,two Spitfires of 64°Sqd:X 4018 and a second forced-landed) with no more precisions.

Suggest you get the relevant Battle of Britain Combat Archive which covers the days combats in some detail
