Bf109G6 loss 3rd March 1944 Northern France 412954
 

Can anyone assist with any information on a Typhoon kill, 3/3/44 in Northern France?

I have some gun camera images and information that suggest its a 109G6 and it occurred over an airfield as the German aircraft was just taking off. I have information that its werks nummer is 412954 or similar.

I cannot find what resource to check this with as most of mine is UK soil related.

Grateful if anyone has any information on the 109 and possibly the Typhoon squadron and aircraft that completed this intercept.

There were no recorded Typhoon claims for 3 March 1944. According to Chris Thomas, the only claims for this month were 16 and 31 March

Graham,

there were no Bf 109 losses that day over Northern France and the production batch including WNr. 412954 went into the air first during June 1944.

Looks like the date info is wrong then, so reversing the logic, are we able to say if 412954 was shot down close to the ground, as alluded to in the pictures?
I have an image, but am not sure how to attach it here for you to see..................

practical : how could a gun camera extract from a film dated 3/44 know the Wnr of the Bf109 killed ?

Difficult to imagine the pilot go on the crash site more than 6 months after the event to check the Wnr of the 109 he shot down 6 months earlier.

there is a glitch somewhere. Either the date, or the Wnr.

Looking at a close up of the plate, it looks like a reused one, or if someone made a mistake and went over it afterwards.
412954 appears to be the number, but underneath are 110?9-
There are 6 photos of the 109's destruction and some typed text explaining the images as:
Six stages in the sudden death of a Me.109G shot down by a Typhoon above an airfield in Northern France.

The date 3-3-1944 has been added in pen afterwards in the bottom right hand corner.
If 412954 was not in the air until June (3 months later) then the date must be wrong. If it is >June 1944, there is a chance that the pilot may have been able to access the data plate, if the advance of the Allies was in such a position to allow it. The fact that it was a take off shoot down must mean the Typhoon was well inside axis lines and I take the point entirely that it would have been difficult to reconcile his gun camera images with the data plate of the crashed aircraft.
The only way to get any sort of link is to know if 412954 was lost on take off from any particular airfield. That would give a date and then presumably be able to see how close the allies were to that airfield. There is a chance that the pilot was able to visit the crash site once the site was overrun by the Allies as they advanced, even more so if we took control of the airfield that 109 took off from as part of that advance.
