on the brit modeller forum someone is asking what a gudgeon op was in relation to fighter cmd orb entry in 1941 anyone know what type of operation it was ? cheers jerry |

Circus, Ramrod, Rodeo, Rhubarb and Roadstead were all 11 Group terminology
In 1941 when these things were being invented 10 Group came up with its own names for the same things, the common ones are Blot, Mandolin, Gudgeon Blot = Circus (large force of fighters, with small force of bombers designed to get into scrap with enemy fighters) Gudgeon = Roadstead (attack on shipping by bombers or fighter bombers with fighter escort) Mandolin = approx Rhubarb or small Ramrod (Fighter/fighter bomber attack (often 4 Whirlwinds sent to airfields) on target with small fighter escort) Martin |
