Re: Victims of the Remagen Bridge?

There is a book 'Die Einsatz der Nachschlachtgruppen 1.2 und 20 an der Westfront von September 1944 bis Mai 1945 ' by Christian Moller' which may have the answer . It shows several Ju 87 losses on the day including the loss of D-5 141968 Ff Uffz Berg and Bf Ogef Siradski both still missing from attack on Remagen . I only have notes I made from the book perhaps another member could give more details,

GQM returns dated 20-3-1945 show Eberhard Berg and Erich Siradski

Re: Victims of the Remagen Bridge?

From the Lw.Kdo. West report for 8 March 1945:
NSG 1: 10 Ju 87 attack on the bridge at Remagen from 16.26–16.53 at 400–200m. Hits observed on the bridge. Strong light AA defence over the target. 2 a/c broke off owing bad weather and technical breakdown.

Casualties 5 a/c missing, 1 damaged; 10 crew missing.
One of the missing crews had bailed out and later returned to their unit.

Re: Victims of the Remagen Bridge?

From the book by Möller mentioned by Brian Bines ; on pages 253 and 254 it states the following losses by NSGr. 1 on 8 March 1945 during the attacks on the Ludendorff bridge:

1./NSGr. 1: 3 losses
Lt Hölzel/ Uffz. Lüttgens Ju 87D-5 Wnr 142101 Shot down near KAsbach-Ohlenberg, 2,5 km east of Remagen

Fhr Berg/ Ogefr Siradski Ju 87D-5 Wnr 141968 reported missing and still listed as missing

Fhr. Pech/ Fw Chromy Ju 87D-5 Wnr 142000 came down near the bridge, crew was sean to attempt to get out of the plane, but presumably drowned

2./ NSGr. 1:
Fw Zbyrowsky/ uffz Borowski Ju87D-5 Wnr 141969 Shot down by flak crashed near Horhausen/Altenkirchen (20km east of Remagen)

3./ NSGr. 1

Lt Tscherisch/ Fw Scholz 3./NSGr. 1 Junkers Ju 87D-5 “V8+MD”. MErgency landing after heavy machinegun fire the plane had to be emergency landed nea Stieldorf/ Königswinter.. 35% damaged. Crew unharmed

Fhj.-FW Detel/ Uffz Tanck Ju 87D-5 Enr 142104 Shot down by Flak, crashed near Elsdorf

As mentioned by Brian, the most likely of these losses are the Berg/ Siradski crew from the losses mentioned above. Though the Pech/ Chromy crew could also be a possibility.

Thijs

Re: Victims of the Remagen Bridge?

Just to extend on the Pech/ Chromy crew the way I read the Helios book their aircraft came down near the Ludendorf Bridge, with one man seen in the water . Later the body of the Bf Gef Josef Chromy was recovered from the Rhine by Oberkassel where he was buried . I could not find a grave reference for Fw Erich Pech. As regards the crew Lt Tscherisch/ Fw Scholz GQM gives their aircraft as w.n. 142092 35%, GQM also shows Ju 87 D-5 142090 2/NSGr 1 as 100% location unknown crew safe,

Hello,

and thanks for response.
Anyway it's very sad, that the finder (an archeologist!) went to press, before the police could secure locality and relelicts.
Nevertheless I'm hopeful the missing crews fate can be solved.

Kind regards

Daniel
