There was another book by Veit Scherzer, I believe, from about 20 years ago that lists all known LW EK recipients known at that time. The 'problem' with this title is that all entries were listed by unit as I remember. It would take hours to go through the thing to establish the earliest date of the award. I haven't refered to it in years, and have no idea where my copy might be.

Thanks for your answer. I think I have to through all these names again. I got some lists anyway, but all starting 1941. I was just wondering, how long it took from establishing the goblet in febuary 1940 to the first award dates.
As I wrote earlier P. IMO is absolutely wrong in his book, stating Mjr Schalk as the first recipient with an award date of 21.08.1940, at least I have 2 earlier dates 08.07.1940 Major Ludwig Schulz and 08.07.1940 for Major Walter Grabmann....
best regards Stephan

Re: Ehrenpokal der Luftwaffe

As with all things Luftwaffe, there can be a series of different dates that lead to confusion:

1) date eventual recipient was recommended by his unit;
2) date recommendation approved by his unit's approving authority (usually Fliegerkorps of Luftflotte);
3) date recommendation approved by the Luftwaffenpersonalamt;
4) printed date that appears on the certificate of award;
5) date the award actually made;
6) date that appears in the recipient's Soldbuch.

Some of these dates may be the same, but certainly not all of them. The time elapsed from 1) above to 4), 5) or 6) above could be anywhere from a few weeks to 8 or 10 months.

So I guess it will depend on which date you are talking about?
