Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

Boerst was shot down and killed on 30/3/44 in a Ju87G-1. At the time he was GrK I./SG2, but that Gruppe did not have any G's at that time. According to Holm's website, 10.(Pz)/SG2 lost 4 G-1's in March 1944, and no other part of the Geschwader lost any to enemy fire that month.
I suspect it likely Boerst was flying one of 10. Staffel a/c when he was shot down.
Can someone tell me what markings it carried? I would guess the unit markings as T6+..U, but the individual a/c code would also be nice to know.
Thanks
Peter

Re: Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

Definitely Boerst was not shot down by AA fire but by a Soviet ace from 129GvIAP
this pilot who flew 1941 with the heroic 67 IAP knew Moldova very well . The story
with AA is a German fabrication due inability to admit that also the "Ivan " had some good
pilots ,capable to bring down experts such as Boerst .

Boerst crashed near Parlitza Cornesti and his and his gunner bodies may have never
been recovered consumed by post impact fire .

PS : In a similar situation on 20.5.1944 also Maj. Dr Jur.Maximilan Otte from same
Group who was personally decorated by Hitler was brought down by a Soviet
fighter near Iasi and definitely not by Soviet AA .

Re: Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

Well, that's the first I've read that both were shot down by fighters.
Given they were both flying Ju-87s, I find it odd that the Germans would cover up the way they were shot down. I mean, I would hardly call it a great feat for fighters to shoot down a Ju-87. And it surely couldn't be good for ground attack troops' morale to know the veterans fell to AA fire.
It's not really within the scope of my original post, but does anyone have evidence to support the claim they were shot down by fighters?
Cheers
Peter

Re: Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

Regarding your remarks let me just say that Soviet AA positions
were not anywhere nearby Iasi or East of Iasi where Boerst
was shot on March 30,1944 in fact it was the begining of the
1st Iasi Chisinau Offensive 1st Ukrainian Front and 2nd Ukranian
Font just completed the Uman -Botosani Offensive and were
moving from far N and NNE towards Iasi . The air engagement
took place close to Iasi which was still under German /Romanian
control . Though as you say thats not on the scope of the
post ,so I would leave the matters here .

Re: Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

There are a loss of case for all fronts and sides where a plane was reported as being shot down by AA fire and was claimed by a fighter of the other side. In many cases, it was claimed both by AA gunners and fighters. So no need to claim it was a "German fabrication", while it was the way it was reported at the time. We are not talking about propaganda here, but about internal loss reports for Luftwaffe eyes only.

As for who shot down Boerst, I had no idea, but the Volksbund database said he was killed at Parliti, and this place saw battles involving German Panzers on at least 1st and 5 April 1944, so was at least close to the front on the 30th, so a loss to AA fire is possible.

Re: Alwin Boerst Ju87G-1 codes known?

If you red my previous post you would note that Front line was not
anywhere near Iasi on March 30 , The Soviets were on that date some
180 NNW of Iasi and so their AA placements which were inexistant near Iasi
or Parlitza / Cornesti where he was shot down .

Only by 5th of April the 2nd Ukrainian Front would be in range of about 80 -90 Km NW
of Iasi while 3rd Ukrainian Front would also not be in range somewhere between
Pervomaysk and Dubosari therefore your comments are of pure speculative nature do not apply .

In fact on March 30,1944 3 JU-87 of SG-2 were claimed by Soviet fighters near
Parlitza an other one near Buguliani also a FW-190 near Petresti. All JU 87 lost
were of SG-2 formation led by Boerst who himself became a victim to the Soviet ftrs.

129 GvIAP Opersvodka clearly confirmed these scores.

PS : Same applies to Maj.M.Otte some 3 weeks later
