Hello,
Currently on ebay is a photo of Halberstadt CL.II 5733/17 of the Flieger-Beobachter-Schule at Schwerin at: https://www.ebay.de/itm/2-Foto-Bild-...AAAOSwqSheyT0W That it is serialled C.2 rather than CL.II is noteworthy. The type was initially known as the C.II before the intoduction of the CL category. It seems likely both photos were in front of the same aircraft, but....no 100% evidence is there? Cheers Stig |
Re: Photos Halberstadt CL.II
Hi Stig,
Perhaps so, but while it might be interesting as an exercise running through other possible serials you'll forgive me if I restrain myself on this occasion..:) I'm also tempted to wonder how may CL.II Germany could afford to relegate to training duties. Regards, Clint |
Re: Photos Halberstadt CL.II
Good questions Clint
Do we know if they allocated any at all? Both this one and the Albatros could actually have been visitors, which would explain at least the crowd in front of the CL.II Cheers Stig |
Re: Photos Halberstadt CL.II
Hi,
Well we know that D.V 2013/17 was used by FBS Schwerin because it says so, and indeed it had also been used in a training role with Jastaschule I at Valenciennes as there is a photo of it in Propellerblatt 7 P.273.It would in fact be interesting to know if it operated with a frontline unit at all.The Halberstadt appears unarmed, circumstantial, if not decisive evidence that it was with a training unit and the style of both photos indicates, that the source is the same. It would , of couse , be nice to have more information, but as we both know, its not always there and you have to go with the information you have. Just a further thought, if the taker of the photographs did operate in a combat unit, perhaps we'll see further photos in due course which may be informative. Regards, Clint |
