FM2 Wildcat Carrier (CVE) marking
This FM-2 Wildcat has a unique rudder marking that I believe belongs to a CVE squadron. Can anyone identify?

Re: FM2 Wildcat Carrier (CVE) marking
VC-88, when on the USS Saginaw Bay CVE-82 (part of TG 52.1) used twin lighting bolts on the tail.
See #19 description on this link: https://books.google.com/books?id=9a...20tail&f=false Also here (for what it is worth) are model planes of VC-88 showing twin lightning bolts. http://www.aikensairplanes.com/tbm-3...ay-march-1945/ This is labeled as the tail of a Wildcat of VC-88 when on the Hoggart Bay, so it may be that VC-88 used them on a couple of tours. https://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Wildcat/...tt-Bay-01.html |

One site has it as VC-99 USS Hoggatt BAy. Check out profile of TBM

Re: FM2 Wildcat Carrier (CVE) marking
Both VC88 and 99 used 2 lightning bolts on HOGGATT BAY; VC88's were small and put the number above the marking, used on HB to March 1945 then by SAGINAW BAY from March (marked as in Rolland's photo). On the left side they went bottom left to top right.
VC99 on HB had larger lightning bolts , on left side top left to bottom right, the number below (as in KAKI's profile); VC99 was on HB after April, replacing VC88. Nick |

Thanks to all for their elucidation on this comparatively obscure topic.
