NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Pt. 1

Gents,

For those of you interested in the Dora, it appears that the long awaited JaPo book on the Fw 190 D will soon be available based on the following information recently posted on their website - http://www.japo-publishing.cz/uvod_gb.html

Focke-Wulf Fw 190D Camouflage & Markings – Part I

The Focke-Wulf Fw 190D was one of the most elegant and powerful birds of prey in the European skies at the end of WW II. Similar in conception to “Messerschmitt Bf 109K, camouflage & marking”, this new work provides a thorough insight in the aircraft’s camouflage and marking schemes.

Part I explains the common rules used for camouflaging and marking of the type, and describes in great detail the various colour patterns applied to the different Focke-Wulf built Fw 190D-9 and D-11 production batches.

The book is fully documented with extracts from original documents, black & white, and colour photographs, as well as colour schemes and colour profiles. It is completed with a comprehensive loss list of the entire Focke-Wulf production.

Highly recommended for all students of WW II aerial warfare, Fw 190 fans, and modellers.

Hardback, 208 pages, approx. 240 photographs, numerous colour schemes, and camouflage profiles of 32 aircraft. English text.

One assumes that this book is now in press and will be available within weeks. It is very exciting to note that apparently the original single volume soft-cover book has now evolved into a two volume hard-cover set. No details are available on what Part 2 will include or when its planned publication date will be.

If one includes the undoubtably first-class Dora book in preparation by Eagle Editions, enthusiasts will be very well served (spoiled!) by these new publications which can't come soon enough.

Cheers,

David

Re: NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Part

Hello David

Thanks for these kind words .

Now just very few weeks to wait . I can say nothing regarding the time spent on the project with Marc and Tomas .

As you mentionned in your post , the project initially planned for one book was split in 2 complementary issues . One of the main reason was the fact that we were able to get much more material than thought at the early stages of this projet which was also a human and friendship adventure .

New material , means , extra text, extra photo captions , extra drawings and we did not want to sacrifice the main purpose of this study , to propose earlier , unpublished material .

As said on JaPo site , this first issue will cover general information on Fw 190D-9 concerning the markings and the camouflage schemes , and will review in detail the markings and camouflages, of Focke Wulf built Fw 190Ds (Fw 190D-9 & Fw 190D-11) .

The subject of the second volume is easy to guess !

We include, as announced , a loss list of the identified Focke Wulf built Dora-9s .

This forthcoming book , if the first half of a common work initiate 11 years ago with Marc and filled a large part of our free time since then , and even more when elaborating the books themselves !

One more time

Many thanks for your post

Eric Larger

Finaly I seems ready! :D
I really hope that it will be on sale soon; I think that we have been waiting much too long already! ;)

Eric: Do you know if there will be a long wait for Part 2?

Re: NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Part

Hello Mike

Yes it will be on sales soon .

We know that people were expecting it sooner , but I can say to you it is worthy to wait .

Reading it could take few days , ellaborating it, with the level we wanted to achieve, tooks much much longer always too much for reader , always not enougth for authors to be as perfect as we want it to be .

Be just aware that producing such a book is not as simple as a roman . You have to deal with text, maps , photo captions , technical drawings , colour profiles , tables , original documents . And everything has to fit with everything . And we do it on our free time .

So volume 2 is on its way , it will not be issued in 3 years , I can promise it to you , but it will take some monthes to be ready . I can say in year 2006 .

In any way we are very pleased that some of you are waiting for our work.
All the best

Eric Larger

YES

focke Wulf built large batches of Fw 190D-9 so there is enougth to complete the first volume for the detail study, only this manufacturer.

Hi Eric!

I hope that you didn't take my comments wrong; I have the highest respect for anyone that write good books, and I understand that it must be a tremendous work to complete a book of this type.

But as this is my all time favorite plane, any wait can feel too long. ;)

Eric and Marc, A very big thank you for this superb effort. I really hope to get it soon. It fullfill one of my dreams. Do you have found that long lasting (colour pic?) of W. Nr. 500645??? Perhaps I should wait to read your book before complaining;))) No of course, cause, IIRC it was not a FW own production...

Perhaps in volume 2.

Very big thank you again for your effort!

NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Part

I meet Eric Larger one month ago. I have been very lucky to have in the hands for three "too short" hours all the pages of the book, just before it was going to be send to the editor.
I can say to all the "D9 fans" that this book will be a must for them. For each plane you will find mutiple very good photos and profiles (most of the time, the both sides). These profiles are excellent.
There are a lot of news and unpublished photos (I have allready on my shelves all the books showing D9 photos).

I have only two regrets :
- we shall have to wait for the second volume (I have seen some of the drawings and the photos of this second issue which are also of the best quality)
- Eric Larger has also unpublished material showing Ta 152 and he does not plan to include these photos in his second book.

Eric Larger 23rd September 2005 20:44

Re: NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Part

Thanks Rémi

But be aware that , there are some new material in the printed version of part I , we would keep some surprise even for you too :-) ...

And I can ensure to anybody that your shelves are large and full of books !

I know that some will regret to wait a while for part II , but achieving what you saw in your hands one month ago , takes time to be assembled and ready to share with readers.

As you know sacrifiying quality and seriousness in our work is not the way we walk on .

Ta 152 is not a Fw 190D-9 , so not in the project in part I and part II even if the manufacturers are the same .

Have a nice week-end

Eric

ps : a scoop , my logo is one of the machines whose profile is in part I .

Hi John,

Thanks for the update - I was curious about how the project was coming along.

And yes, I know how hard it is to continue these sortt of studies with family, careers, etc. indeed, this past week I was in the Hospital with a G-I infection so lost all those evenings to actually get something done. This is also my first opportunity to catch up on a week's review of websites.

Cheers,

Dave

 Liam

A good question by Liam, especially as you did publish a book on the Ta 152 in the early 1990s. Any thoughts on either updating it, and publishing it in English, or of creating a new book on the subject. Although, there is one book out on the subject, and another soon to be published by Monogram.

Re: NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Pt. 1

Hello

For the moment , nothing really is planned for a book on Ta 152 . As you know preparing such an issue is a project spread on several years . I have personnally , other project in mind regarding Luftwaffe , but let me time to elaborate them to reach the same level we achieve with the books on Fw 190D-9.

It is sure that there are similarities between camouflage and markings of Fw 190D-9 and Ta 152 ones , simply first because the machines were produced in the same factories at the same time .

The idea is nice , but first we will concentrate on Fw 190D-9 , and especially on volume II . JaPo will then decide what will be the next publications . Some others are being to be prepared , that is what I can say to you .

All the best

Eric Larger

Yes Peter

You are right , it was a nice book and I think their first book , except the print quality , there were a lot interesting points in it , I do not speak about the text , as I do not read Czech .

It was the reason why I bought it as the book on Fw 190F too .

Re: NEW BOOK - Fw 190 D Camouflage & Markings - Pt. 1

I got the book !
It's definitely a must buy, it includes a bunch of color pictures including cockpit pictures. The profiles are very nice and along with ultra detailled profiles there are a lot of mini profiles a bit like the ones you could find in the Hikoki books, there are quite useful for gettting a general view of a camouflage or specific pattern.
The analysis seems very good but i haven't got time to check it thoroughly yet. A nice addition is of colors used by staffeln and a list of known 190D-9 losses.

A very good buy indeed, and i got it a fairly low price of 35 Euros !
I highly recommand it, impatiently waiting for the next opus :)

We hope you will like the layout , according to us the most clear way to describe this subject . I hope too that our book will answer some of the questions you could have concerning the camouflages wore by Fw 190D-9 and be as insteresting as you were expecting it to be .

All your remarks are welcome .

Thanks for this and for having choosen our book

REMARKABLE! There is not different words. Which work and which result!

I awaited this book much; the result goes well beyond my hopes: a well structured and pleasant presentation, splendid profiles, new photographs, rich and interesting contents, with much of surprised (I think in particular of photo page 46 of WNr. 500570 showing and confirming the interior yellow color of the fuselage access hatch).
The chapters "Camouflage & markings-theory" and "Individual description of production batches" are a treasure for the modeller who I am.

Highly the exit of part II!
Like one says at home: low hat Gentlemen!
