Re: Loss deatials - Feldebel Hans Walchhofer Afrika 1942

Hello Rick,

Fw. Johann Walchhofer los his life after he made an emergency landing in a mine field south of El Adem. One source indicates the reason for the emergency landing was air combat, the other says engine damage - ofcourse, it could be both. Fw. Walchhofer was from the 6./JG27 and flew a Bf 109F-4/trop, WNr.8465 with unknown markings.

best regards,
Tomislav

Guys

Prien clearly states Luftkampf. Checking Fighters over the Desert, Shores states this was in a combat with 260 Sq and that Walchhofer's engine was hit in a head-on combat run with one of these. Strangely enough no claim seems to have been registered, or at least not discovered, by the time the book was published.

Cheers
Stig
