Sqn Ldr G.H. Plinston
Hello all,
Does anybody have a service record for this squadron leader who I believe joined the RAF in 1935 and undertook training with No.11 Flying Training School at Wittering? If anybody can direct me to a photo of the man as well that would be hugely helpful. Thanks, Tim |

George Hugo Formby Plinston 37419
From Aces High Vol 1: Posted to France with 1 Squadron in September 1939. Then posted to 607 Squadron as Flying Officer and saw action with them in May 1940. Posted to 242 Squadron during May, but posted away once they returned to Britain and Bader took over. Sent to the Middle East, and flew as flight Commander in 3 RAAF Squadron in Oct 1942, then in 250 Squadron the following month. DFC in March 1943, and posted to command 601 Squadron in the same month. Only remained a few days as tour ended. Details of subsequent career are not available. Total 7 and 1 shared destroyed. However, I have seen his name on a letter in Flight magazine postwar so he did survive. There's a picture of him in 1936: http://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchi...0-%203508.html |

Many thanks Amrit, that's hugely helpful.
Just had a look through "Twelve Days in May" for the entries concerning him. Cheers, Tim |
Re: Sqn Ldr G.H. Plinston
I remember Hugo and his wife Valerie as I was growing up. They were good friends of my family in Badgeworth in the 1970's. They lived at Inkerman cotage. I'm sure my family have photos of "Hugo" from that time, I'll try to look them up.
