Re: Schnaufer 66th Kill
Hello Wim,
according to the Bomber Command Loss Card the loss of the Lancaster DV309 was documented in the German Luftgaumeldung, Abschußnummer/casualty no. KE 8640. In the loss card is noted: Place of loss … 3 km northwest Tongerlo, 10 km southeast Herentals Cause of loss … probably night-fighter Airframe % destroyed … 100% How aircraft landed … exploded with bombs in the air. Regards Leo |

Re: Schnaufer 66th Kill
Hello,
Heinz Schnaufer made his 66th victory on 22.05.1944 at 1.34, 3 km southeast of Mol. Lancaster DV 309 `BQ-S´/550 Sqn. was his 67th victory on 22.05.1944 at 1.51, 10 km south of Herentals. You can read this in the exellent book "Nachtspook van Sint-Truiden - De biografie van Heinz Schnaufer en zijn bemanning", by Wim Govaerts. I have checked this in the Leistungsbuch of Fritz Rumpelhardt and Flugbuch of Heinz Schnaufer. Regards, René |
Re: Schnaufer 66th Kill
Luftwaffe nightfighter claims and Boiten have it as his 66th kill, the 67th kill at Herentals was a 626 sqn Lancaster ND964.

hi,
460 squadron also lost a lancaster in that night even at the same time. why could this not be one of schnaufer´s victory? all the best jim |
Re: Schnaufer 66th Kill
Hello Jim,
I have matched the 460 Sqn loss to the following claim: Hptm. Heinz Strüning: 42 3./NJG1 Lancaster N. Turnhout: 5.300 m. 01.32 460 Sqn Lancaster LL951 Cheers, Theo |
Re: Schnaufer 66th Kill
hi theo,
ok ... but no-one can say it for sure, if the two losses and the two claims are matching?!? we have two nearly exactly times and nearly exactly two towns where the lancasters were lost... all the best jim |
