Hello,

The "CHESTNUT OPERATIONS" Two Albemarles* of No.296 Squadron each para-dropped a detachment of 12 SAS troops at Randazzo and Enna on the night of 12 July (1943), to harass and disrupt enemy communications, one of the Albemarles was lost.

Referring to this post of 2016: can we assume that (also missing) Major John Geoffrey Appleyard was the sole return passenger in lost Albemarle P1446?

ORB 296 Sqdn is somewhat puzzling with P1446: "This aircraft is missing. Some of the troops of the 2nd S.A.S. Regt. who dropped from the machine have returned and have reported that the aircraft were not in difficulty up to the time of dropping."
