Alfred Wehmeyer

Dear All,
Do you happen to have access to any documents concerning Alfred Wehmeyer (his Soldbuch, etc.)?

First of all, do you happen to know whether he was married? On his gravestone, there is no information about his widow: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...lfred-wehmeyer, but, if he was, maybe his widow remarried and was buried with her second husband... (By the way, do you know why are all his family buried in Germany? Were they actually German, not Austrian?
Second, if you have access to his Soldbuch, what was his height and what was his eye colour? (As for his hair, it seems to have been dark, maybe brown, but in black and white photos this is not always obvious.)
Thank you very much in advance.

P.S. Do you happen to know at what time he was killed? I've only found the date, June 1st, 1942.

No answer so far... Maybe this time I'll have more luck?

I can't answer your questions, but anecdotally, a good friend of mine, Helmut Zittier, was a comrade of Wehmeyer in Africa, and always spoke very highly of him as an example within the unit and a gentleman.

Dear Vince,
Thank you very much for your answer. I'm glad to hear that Alfred Wehmeyer was such a nice person. Didn't Mr Zittier ever mention whether he had been married?
Best regards,
Teresa

No, we never spoke about his private life.

Dear Vince,
Thank you for your answer. This is a pity, especially because being married or not is not so personal as to be a taboo topic.
Best regards,
Teresa

Re: Alfred Wehmeyer

Our conversations mainly revolved around aviation subjects, and Zittier was associated with some interesting figures besides Wehmeyer, including the Haugk brothers and Rudolf Schoenert.
