Curtiss H-75A by III./JG 77
1 Attachment(s)
Hello,
The H-751 n°30 (KQ+ZA), captured in France late June 1940, is said to have been used for some time by III./JG77. A few questions arise: - what for? - was it alone? - when? - and how long? Many thanks in advance. Chris |
Re: Curtiss H-75A by III./JG 77
Hi Chris,
If I remember the story correctly, the answer you are looking for could be found in Prien and others, I believe part 5. The point is that III./JG 77 was formed from II.(J)/186 (minus its 4. Staffel) after the Westfeldzug of May-June 1940, and did not have sufficient number of the Bf 109 E aircraft at its disposal for the replacement Staffel. The aircraft was apparently hugely unpopular, and it was disposed of by the unit as soon as it received the Bf 109 Es in sufficient numbers. Will check it further, and give a more precise reference. |

It is JFV 5, page 148, the Curtiss-es were used by 7./JG 77 and passed on to training units by the end of October 1940. No combat sorties flown.

Thank you.
I looked through JFV 5 but obviously missed the point. Chris |
