Hi Guys,

Today I am searching for the loss details for Feldwebel Leonhard Mayer of KG 100 killed in action on the 21.10.1944. Any further details regarding this loss would be really appreciated.

Many thanks Matti, obviously transferred from KG 100, was with this unit when he received the DKiG in 1943.

Appreciate your help!

According to the book "Fighters over the Aegean" by Brian Cull, this loss occured on 22 October and is linked to a British claim:
"Flg Off Wally Cunnigham of 108 Sqn (with Flg Off Bob Common in ND145/W) reported an AI contact and pursued a Heinkel that he attacked from astern setting its starboard engine on fire. It went down in a 'screaming dive' into the sea."

If the above is correct, that means that the Heinkel was lost during the night of 21-22 October, and so could be listed on the 21st in the German loss list.

The hour of the claim of Cunningham would help, but is not given in the book.

This might be a daft question however;

Was ND145/W a Beaufighter or a Mosquito aircraft, as I understand that 108 Sqn were operating both at this time.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Regards Richard.

ND145 was a Beaufighter VIf serial.
