Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'
Hello, I'm looking for someone who can help with a question regarding the shape of the rudder of the Arado 234's.
I've come across a technical drawing of the 'Seitenleitwerk' in the book by Manfred Griehl "Strahlflugzeug Arado Ar 234 ''Blitz''. http://www.danskemodelbyggere.dk/for...218073042.jpeg It looks as if the Arado Ar 234 A prototypes had a smaller rudder than the later production Ar 234 B's? Maybe it's me but I'm having a hard time seeing the difference when looking at photos of the different Ar 234 models? I would very much appreciate it, if someone could shed some light into this. Thank you: Kent |
Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'
I think this drawing is not same, possibly an projeted one. Lots of such drawings found in captured docs, but Griehl & Co sometimes muddle the pond.
https://airandspace.si.edu/collectio...-park-ridge-il this was production one... 140312 Ar 234 B-2 (Bomber) F1+GS 8./KG 76 (Grove) - Flown to Stavanger/Sola to avoid capture 05.05.1945 - Ob.Q.M. Reserve - Surrendered there 10.05.1945 - RAF - USAAF 'Watson Whizzers' "505" - Flown to France - Project Seahorse transit number "27" on HMS REAPER to USA 1945 - USA 50 - FE-1010 USAAF - Under restoration 16.05.1946 - Flyable & assigned to Flight Test Unit (Bomber Test) 01.08.1946 - T2-1010 - Smithsonian Institude, Stored Park Ridge IL 1946 - NASM Silver Hill (Maryland) 1972 - Restored 1989 as F1+GS (Preserved) I can post pictures I took last year of F1+GS, but plenty on the net already. Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'
Thank's for your reply. I think you are right. Although many drawings and profiles show a larger rudder, I haven't been able to find any photos of Arado's with a large rudder as in the Arado 'Werkzeichnung' published by "Griehl & Co"
But the exists and it would be nice to learn the real story behind it, if possible... Regards: kent |
Re: Arado Ar 234 'Seitenleitwerk'
The drawing suggest a possible modification to the leitwerk. The dotted line refers to the shape of the altes or old version.
