Is this from an aircraft?
 

Hi Guys,

I found this metal box in a wood quite near to where a B-17 crashed and exploded. Could this part found be aircraft related? Does anyone know what it is? Can you help???

In picture P1040855 what is the exact distance between the series of silver rivets? that run along the top of the box. Based on some eyeball measurements using your picture and the included scale, they appear to be exactly 3 cm apart. Is that correct?

Then I doubt the box would have been on a B-17. B-17 parts would have been made to inches/feet standards not metric. So assuming the rivets are "exactly" 3 cm apart rather than say "exactly" 1 and 1/4 inches apart, I think the box was made using metric standards. There may be some other items or dimensions on the box that you could measure both ways to see if you get similar results.
