Convoy attack on February 6 1943 off Algeria;

Guys:

I was 're-reading' Vol. 3 of Shores' Air War in the Med & I came across an brief entry about an Allied Convoy off the Algerian Coast getting mauled by Sardinia based Axis bombers on February 6, 1943. Anybody got any details? I couldn't find anything in the book & I had no luck on 'the 'net' either.

Thanks ahead of time.

Here is what I have for that date.

"While escorting convoy KMF-8, the corvette HMCS Louisburg (K 143) , commanded by Lt. Commander William F. Campbell, was attacked and sunk near Cape Tenes, Algeria by two separate formations of German planes from FK II. The first consisted of 7 Ju-88 bombers, the other of 7 torpedo planes, He.111 of the 4th Staffel from II/KG.26, lead by Hauptmann Rudolf Schmidt. From a crew of 109, rescue craft were able to recover 50. Two of the He.111s were lost, but one crew was rescued by a Spanish trawler."

Hi Nick,

Seven Ju 88 bombers of K.G. 30 and seven He 111 torpedo-bombers of K.G. 26 carried out a combined dusk attack against an enemy convoy in Pl.Qu. 03 Ost/0753. Four Ju 88s achieved no success, one claimed two hits on a merchant vessel of 6,000-8,000 tons, and one Ju 88 claimed a near miss on a merchant vessel of 6,000 tons. One He 111 claimed a 6,000 ton merchant vessel damaged, and another He 111 claimed a 6,000 ton tanker damaged.

Cheers,
Andrew A.
