The Air Force Chronology for Friday, 12 March 1943:

(Eighth Air Force) VIII Bomber Command Mission No. 42: 72 B-17's are dispatched by the 1st Bombardment Wing against the Rouen-Sotteville marshalling yard; 63 drop 156.5 tons of bombs on the target between 1241 and 1244 hours local. There are no losses and no claims on this mission; good fighter escort is a major factor in this no-loss mission. Eighteen B-24's of the 2d Bombardment Wing fly a diversionary mission with no losses or claims. The 4th Fighter Group flies 43 sorties in their Spitfire Mk V's; 41 are flown on a flighter sweep and 1 Spitfire is shot down near St. Omer, France; the pilot is listed as MIA; we claim 2 enemy aircraft damaged. The other 2 sorties were shipping patrols.

A Spitfire loss: BL240 flown by Hazen S Anderson (POW), near St Omer. No MACR.

Lemke claimed an RAF Spitfire near Fecamp on 12 March 1943.

Re: Allies losses on 12/03/43 by JG2 ?

Hello Michel,

in JFV Vol. 10/IV (Einsatz im Westen 1943) the following confirmed claims of JG 2 and JG 26 on 12 March 1943 are listed:

11./JG 2 Fw Karl Gratz Spitfire – diverging Tony Wood: B-17 – (84.) 13.05 30 km NW Fécamp, 2000 m
1./JG 2 Uffz Siegfried Lemke Spitfire (1.) 13.10 20 - 25 km N Fécamp, 7.500 m
1./JG 2 Lt Josef Wurmheller Typhoon (67.) 13.11 50 km N Fécamp, 7.000 m

12./JG 2 Lt Georg-Peter Eder Spitfire (16.) 13.05 38 km NW Fécamp, 7.000 m
12./JG 2 Lt Heinrich Paulus Spitfire (1.) 13.07 NW Fécamp, 7.000 m

9./JG 26 Fw Edgar Dörre Spitfire (6.) 16.38 Gravelines, 5.500 m

So there is no connection of the Spitfire BL240 loss and the JG 2 claims.

Regards
Leo

Thanks guys

This confirms that these claims by JG2(and "abschusse"),are unfounded.
Still "abschusse" (Eder,Lemke....) awarded,more than suspicious....a habit with JG2.
