Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

For those interested, pdfs have gone to the publisher (Crecy) who will no doubt tell me later the publication date (prob Sep/Oct 17). Just under 83,000 words (excluding acknowledgements, index, glossary and photo captions), 662 photos, 35 profiles, 1 map, 3 pages of line drawings

Chris

Do you have any idea as to why Amazon UK are quoting dispatch from 1 to 2 months? I was under the impression it was now available?

Really looking forward to this book.

Regards Richard.

By the way, is there a chance for a re-print of your Luftwaffe Hit-And-Run Raiders? The book got very scarce and expensive. It must be the only book by you I still don't have.

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

Lagarto. The decision is with Crecy. I have suggested also that Sea Eagles are combined into one volume. No decision but I have a meeting to discuss this & future projects in the next few weeks

Bought my copy at the IPMS Gent challenge last week.
Never seen before so much pictures of the condor together in one book.
Most, if not all, are new to me.
Just nitpicking, in my copy are a few printingerrors... as I wrote just nitpicking.
Incredible book Chris, keep up the good work.
Kind regards,

Dirk

Thanks Dirk for your kind words. I too had noted a few minor printing hiccups & the publisher is aware for any reprints. Next book finished this week (Knights of the Battle of Britain) & you never know, a Do 17 book might be in the offing....

Got my copy on Monday , what a fantastic book. Congrats Chris on a wonderful book and for me possibly one if not the best on the Fw200 to date . The photos are wonderful and thanks for the credits on the photos I sent you for the book . I wish you well with sale and I am sure such a fine piece will sell well , congratulations again .

Amazon US alternates between claiming it is in stock and claiming it has not been released. Huh???

Chris:

My compliments on your Fw 200 effort. I have just received it and have given it cursory glance, spending more time later on it. Looks like lots of photos that appear new to me. Looking forward to studying the color profiles too.

One of the things that I have found of interest as part of my initial impression is the magnitude of Condar losses. Much more than I ever envisioned.

Again....well done!

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

Thanks Mark-most kind. It was hard work but as far as I am aware, the feedback has been that I have done the Condor some kind of justice. Next major book will be 'Knights of the Battle of Britain' due out early this year which are the bios of all 124 operational aircrew who received the RK or EL 6 April-31 Dec 40. Then, as a result of the Condor book, there will be "Dornier Do 17: The Flying Pencil at War 1939-45"......

Great to hear! I finished the Condor book last week and enjoyed it thoroughly. A Do 17 book is long over due and with you writing it, I'm sure it will be excellent. I'd love to see the BV 138 get the Classic treatment. Heck I'd even settle for the He 115 or Ar 196. Forlorn hope I know but since the series started with the HS 129 I can dream, can't I? :)

Keep up the great work and thanks!

Jukka Juutinen 9th January 2018 18:34

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

Indeed the BV 138 would deserve a proper big book. However, I would prefer it to be a "Development, Testing, Production" style book (e.g. like Dietmar Herrman's Fw 190 books or Vernaleken's Ju 388 book), not an operational chronicle. After all, Chris's Condor book did not tell the reader such basics as stalling speeds and characteristics.

Chris Goss 9th January 2018 19:52

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

Funny you should mention Ar 196 & BV 138.... Fw 200 was written as an "in combat" which is my forte. Do 17 will be different.

hedgehog6 26th January 2018 03:56

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

I found it interesting that the new Do-335 book has the same number as the old one, and is clearly intended as a replacement. Your new Condor book however, has its own new number, and the two Condor books, though written years apart by different authors, in some ways function as a two-volume set. Great book by the way. I look forward to the Do-17 book, and I certainly would love Classics on Bv-138 and/or Ar-196.

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

Thanks for your kind comments. Presume by the other Condor book, you are talking about the Jerry Scutts book? Problem with this is it was published posthumously & it was incomplete & error strewn. I was asked if I would rewrite it but the work involved would have been too great. Hence my new book.

He might mean the Juan-Carlos Salgado one, which Classic published in 2008 as No. 16 in the series.

Could be which was a combination of his two books in Spanish and very superficial

I actually did mean Classic 16, which included air-line and pre-war stuff as well as a little more about what differentiated one variant from another.
I was a tiny bit surprised that neither volume had a complete production list. With less than 300 built, this seems like it would be possible?

Chris Goss 30th January 2018 08:21

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

The book was written as 'in combat' as opposed to design, development & manufacture & in combat The losses give a good indication of any production list. The Do 17 book will include more on design & development but don't expect a production list! JC's book was an amalgamation of his 2 booklets on the ac which had been written in Spanish, translated & expanded slightly.

Do you intend that Do-17 includes the Do-217?

Chris Goss 31st January 2018 07:40

Re: Focke Wulf Fw 200: The Condor at War

No-the book would be massive. Likewise the Do 215 as Mikael has just done this
