Do 17 shot down in south of France
Hi!
i'm looking for informations about a Dornier 17 shot down by french air force the june 19th 1940. This plane would have landed around Tournon (Ardèche, France). I presume this plane was a part of the KG 55 but i don't find the right information. Thank you for your help. |

Re: Do 17 shot down in south of France
KG 55 did not have Dornier Do 17 aircraft on strength in WW2.

Stab/KG 53 and an apparent victim of Lt Tariel of GCIII/1. No crew details and aircraft repairable

Re: Do 17 shot down in south of France
Thank you Sirs.
The french pilot is lieutenant Jean Tariel ( GC III/1). His plane was a MS 406. It's funny to read in the french reports that the Do 17 tried to shot down first the french airplane ... I suppose the Do 17 did a solo recon mission. |

Xerumbe,
According to the EoE LW Loss DB compiled by Peter Cornwell: "19 June 1940: Stabsstaffel KG53 Heinkel He111H. Reportedly forced-landed north of Tourney, France, damaged in attack by Lt Tariel of GC III/1 during reconnaissance sortie over Dompierre 11.10 a.m. No crew casualties. Aircraft 40% damaged but repairable." Is your question prompted by photos of the LW a/c after it force-landed? Does anyone know of any photos of this aircraft after it came down? |
Re: Do 17 shot down in south of France
I don't have any photo. I have read the combat report of the GC III/1. You talk about a He111 but the reports name the plane as a Do 17. I'm going to investigate more ...

There were no other losses that would match this day
