correct location of crash of 3./JG301 Bf109 G-6 WNr 163509 on 7-8 July 1944?

Dear all,

The crash location of 3./JG301 Bf109 G-6 WNr 163509 on 7-8 July 1944 is quoted as 'Jeuvroi', but I have not been able to find a place with this name in NW France, who has the right spelling of the place where this Bf109 crashed?

Cheers and thanks, Theo

Theo,

the NVM reports the location like "Jeuroi". No clue, where this may be.

Could it be La Jeuvrie?

Thanks chaps, but the location must be in the area to the SE of Dieppe -the pilot claimed a B-26 shot down 'SE of Dieppe' at 02.28 hrs but was shot down in turn in return fire from his opponent and baled out wounded.

Cheers, Theo

Jean-Bernard Frappé's book has 'Jeuroi ! (Journy ?)' but that is not SE of Dieppe either.

Hi Théo,
SE Dieppe, perhaps Gerberoy in Oise departement could fit?
All the best.

Best fit SE of Dieppe - and just 54km far away - is Rouvray. (Rouvray-Catillon) Catillon being only a small hamlet the other side (left shore) of the river Andelle.

Cheers,
Franck.

Thanks Franck and Laurent for your suggestions, these may fit. One of the problems with the German claim/loss is that no actual American bomber loss has been found that could be tied to the claim, I have the following entry in the NCA series manuscript:

Uffz. Paul Werner: 1 3./JG301 B-26 SE Dieppe: 3.000 m. 02.28 unidentified. Note: achieved in co-operation with Flak searchlight, victory confirmed on 28.12.1944

I have a German first-hand account that describes how Uffz. Werner shot down a searchlight-coned B-26, but in turn was shot down by the upper gunner of the Marauder when he was himself illuminated by the searchlight that coned the B-26 .. No Marauder loss occurred in the area SE of Dieppe on this night.

Cheers, Theo
