Alfred,

Thru books.google you can find an online book called "Thor's Legions: Weather Support to U.S. Air Forces and Army, 1937-1987" by John Fuller.

On p. 79 some info about 9th WRS. It was based at Middle Wallop and had 10 x P-51B.

Regards,

Leendert

Alfred this is the only photo I know of a 9thWRS Mustang ( a D-5 with fin fillet retro-fitted); the "O" is a letter not number. Some of their Mustangs came from the 354FG, this from the 356FS still with their nose marking.
Little info probably as they were a Provisional squadron not assiged to a Group. As Leendert mentions their early planes were Bs and Cs .

Thanks guys, I wondered if it was attached to the 354th FG like the Scouting Force units were attached to fighters groups in the 8th AF and wears similar markings and codes but I found no information in Steve Blake's book about the 354th FG. But the unit's code is "8O" as your picture prove.

Re: 9th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (Provisional)

Hello,
Have looked quickly through the book you mentioned . There are two pictures of Mustangs, "8O- K" " Lady Alice" serial looked to me to be '396.
The other was of "8O-U" "Miss Manookie" serial again looked to be 44-13544 .
The first above '544 - 353FS/354FG - Pinkerton - MACR 8226 - 7 Aug '44.
If '644 then To Swiss AF as J-2114.
As for 'Lady Alice" - '396 so far I have found nil.

"8O-Y" - 44-13525 shown in picture in the post earlier.
356FS/354FG crashed in the UK on 27 September '44 Pilot :Thompson - OK. A/c scrapped.

There is a two part special on the 9th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron in an old Air Classics published in the 80s. I have copies of these two magazines. Send me a PM if you need a copy of the article.

Here is some links to the 9th WRS I found or was told about.
Video of Pilots and ground crew getting ready for mission. Has two P-51B's in it:

Another forum where this squadron is the subject:

I have the two Air Classic magazines. I can dig them out and make copies of them. If you want the magazines I got one of mine on Ebay but I can't remember which ones so I need to find them if your interested.

I had some Negatives on some of there P-51B's but lent them to someone years ago and so far have not received them back after hand full of ' I will send them back soon' type messages. Disappointed people are like that but lesson learned.

Have a list of P-51's serials and some codes and nose art/names. Thank you Ted. I think the above forum link has these.

Cheers
