ALG Photos Verification - need help

Hello,

I recently ran across these photos on a Facebook page and would like to know if anyone here recognizes them and can tell me what or who the source is. I want to use them for my book, but can't without the source.

Thanks in "advance" (no pun intended).

Claiborne

You should be aware that this should be on the Allied board & if you are doing a book on ALGs, one has just been published (look at the Books Board)

Oh geez. I need to start over. My book is specific to the 367th FS.

Everyone disregard.

Thanks.

Sorry-the book mentions A-28 Pontorson, A-2 Criqueville and A-14 Cretteville for the 367th

I would not be put off by the fact someone else has done a book on ALGs. Your account of the 367th might give better coverage of events than a book covering every ALG.

Thanks for the encouragement Larry. I have a specific account from a pilot that I am referencing in the book where he described to me what it was like to land on the first ALGs on the Beachhead. He could never remember which one. To round out his account I am going to include photos and those ones I posted are perfect because it shows the activity so well. Guess I will have to keep searching.

Thanks again,

Claiborne

It occurred to me that you are researching the 367th Fighter SQUADRON, that flew the P-47 rather that the 367th Fighter Group which flew P-38s.

You need to be very specific on this forum!

According to John Hamlin of Air Britain Historians, the 367th FS used A-14 Cretteville from 3rd July 1944, and only moved out on 14th August so I guess that's the base your pilot remembers.

BTW - I am doing the same as you on the 405th FG

Yessir. I referenced 367FS earlier in the thread. I will do better.

The pilot, Tommy Thompson, and I were discussing two efforts of a mission he flew on. After completing the first effort of the mission, he landed on an ALG at the beachhead, refueled and rearmed and then took off for the second effort. They were still stationed at High Halden at that point. The 358FG began moving to A14 Cretteville on July 6 and the pilots moved over on July 29 (367FS Mission Report/Diary).

I would be lost if I tried to write the history of the 358FG. I can't find enough time to finish the 367FS and I am only focusing on the last 6 months of 1944.

Thanks for your help. Regards

Claiborne
