I have searched through our database and can find no one of this or similar description. Please check the spelling of the name and any unit associations.

Sorry.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

This is what I found in :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jagdgeschwader_300

Major Alfred Lindenberger, (a forty-seven year old Prussian World War I ace with 12 victories) was posted to II./JG 300 in June 1944 and was made Gruppenkommandeur later in 1944. On 28 September 1944 he was shot down by P-51s and wounded. Owing to his age and inexperience with modern fighters he flew most sorties as a wingman. Lindenberger claimed two US four-engined bombers on 17 December 1944.

cheers

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Hi Philippe,
The book 'Above The Lines' by Franks,Bailey and Guest has Alfred Lindenberger as a Leutnant observer with Flieger Abteilung 234 in 1917,during which time he shared three victories, the first with Vizfeldwebel Breitenstein on 29 May and two with Vizfeldwebel Kurt Jentsch on 2 and 21 October.
After training as a pilot,he joined Jasta 2 Boelcke in 1918 and claimed nine further victories between 30 May and 1 November. His claims list also has four more victories for September 1944,no unit or dates mentioned, but a quick look through Tony Wood's claims lists shows two on 29 September while with StabII/JG300,a B-17 at 12.41 in the area Hildesheim-Salzgitter and a P-51 at 12.55 NNE of Quedlingburg.
Hope this helps,
Regards,Mark.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Lindenberger was an old friend of my uncle's, and I have a copy of a letter my uncle wrote late in 1944 in which he claims Lindenberger was credited with three victories on that day.

Hi Philipp

1. 31st May 1918 Breguet Villers Cotterets
2. 1st June 1918 Breguet Priez
3. 18th August 1918 Breguet Moulin-Touvent
4. 20th August 1918 AR2 West of Champs
5. 31st August 1918 RE8 Honnecourt
6. 3rd September 1918 BF2b Combes area at 1805 hrs
7. 6th September 1918 Camel Lagnicourt
8. 30th October 1918 SE5 Harchies
9. 1st November 1918 SE5 South-East of Harchies

WW2:-

10. 28th September 1944 B-17 Hildesheim/Salzgitter at 1241 hrs at 8000 metres.
11. 28th September 1944 Mustang(for sure) Quedlingburg area at 1255 hrs at 500 metres.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Here's a little known fact about Alfred Lindenberger. Not only was he a WWI ace and Sturmgruppe (Assault Group) commander in World War II, he was a member of Galland's Jagdverband 44, which operated Me 262s. At the end of the war, Lindenberger was brought to the United Sates to show Americans how to fly the Me 262.

Re: Informations about Major Alfred Lindenberger

Hi Barry,

interesting. Maybe that Lindenberger was member of the JV44. But not in the role as a pilot. At least in the well known Gutowski-paper of 27 04.45 he is not identified as one of its pilots.
