James Edwards 56 Squadron
Seeking info on the RAF career of James W. Edwards who flew Typhoons in 56 Squadron before transfering to the AAF 356th FS 354th FG has a flight commander in Oct 1943. He later worked for Harrah's in Reno, NV and was the pilot of their restored Ford Trimotor.
I understand there was another American in 56 Squadron named Sullivan who was KIA. Any details. |
Re: James Edwards 56 Squadron
Hi Jack
I haven't had a chance to check out Edwards as yet, but Flg Off Leroy Means SULLIVAN RCAF (J/8905) who hailed from Chattanooga, Tennessee, was killed in a flying accident (JP728/US-G)at Martlesham Heath with 56 Squadron on 7 November 1943 (age 21) and is buried in Brookwood Military Cemetery. Hope this helps PS: You did say you would dig out some gen on your friend (Ernie Shipman) who was shot down by friendly fire, and also the Mad Gunner! Thanks. Cheers Brian |
Re: James Edwards 56 Squadron
I'm still looking for Ernie's story.
I would be interested in knowing if Jim Edwards had a claims for aerial or ground kills in the RAF. |
Re: James Edwards 56 Squadron
