Herbert Ihlefeld LG2
 

Hi, can someone help as I am a little confused. I have just read that Oblt Herbert Ihlefeld Ihlefeld was promoted to Oberleutnant on 1st June 1940, followed by his appointment to Staffelkapitän of 2(J)/LG2.

Then on the 30th June 1940, we have:
Stab I(J)/LG2.
Messerschmitt Bf109E ( ). Damaged by return fire from RAF Blenheim of 107 Squadron. Force-landed near St. Omer, France. Oblt. Herbert Ihlefeld (FF) unhurt. Aircraft damaged.

If Ihlefeld was a staffelkapitän of 2(J)/LG2, why was he flying in Stab I(J)/LG2 when he was shot down?
