JU88 A-14 serial 144537 codes 3E+HM lost 25/03/1943

Looking for as much information as possible about the aircraft mentioned and also the crew.

JU88 A-14 serial 144537 codes 3E+HM was lost on a raid over Edinburgh on the night of 25/03/1943.

Not being able to find the target they dropped their bombs over a farm in the Pentland hills and turned for home. Somewhat lost I would think they crashed in the Pentlands near the top of a hill.

The wreck site was found a number of years ago and a simple memorial erected by a friend of mine and the family of some of the crew attended.

I would now like to find out as much as I can about this aircraft and crew after visiting the site recently. We found a plate with the following on it.

Garat nr. 19-5718 A-2
FI nr E 571801 with BA 15 ----- something after that
Werk nr 115714

My query is should the werk nr match that of the aircraft or was it policy to replace parts where these plates were and not erase or remove the previous aircraft identity.

Also what type of Jumo would this aircraft have had.

Regards Scott

Small component parts would almost never have the same W.Nr. as the main aircraft, it would be an exception for them to match. IIIRC, the A-14s usually would be powered by JUMO 211Js. The pilot's name was Oblt. Fritz Förster, thanks to Jim P for passing to me that information.

Best regards,

Thanks for that Artie Bob

Does anyone know of cutaway drawings or pictures of the Jumo 211j.

I am pretty sure there are more than a few Jumo parts at the site but Like a lot of crash sites I cant place them in the set up.

regards scott.
