D-Day German reaction

Hi,

Can anyone tell me what German coastal batteries were active between 01.00hrs and 04.30 hours between Cap Griz Nez and Boulogne in response to Operation Glimmer.

Any pointers welcome.

Regards
Steve

Re: D-Day German reaction

Hello Steve,

between 06 hrs 11 and 06 hrs 30 (local time so G.M.T.+2) battery Grosser Kurfürst at Framzelle (not far from Gris Nez) fired 8 x 280 mm shells in square BF3329 (8 nautical miles west from Boulogne).

between 06 hrs 38 and 06 hrs 40 (GMT+2) battery Todt at Haringzelle fired 2 partial salvoes (in fact 2 salvoes of 2 x 380 mm shells) on a ship identified as a merchant ship at about 35000 meters.

Claude

Re: D-Day German reaction

Can we assume all German units in that region were fully alerted by 05:00 or earlier?

How far north in the Flanders region was this alert or alarm set?

Thanks for any information on this.
